Word pronunciation changes over the years. I bet every word that changed caused some to bitch about it. I find myself doing the same thing and the bitches are plenty. “Question.” I don’t really have one but I do bitch about how it is pronounced lately. I always pronounced it kwest chun. Through some weird osmosis thing, it has become kwesh on. No hardness there in the middle. It bugs me. Is it because someone is too lazy to let the ‘T” say its piece? And then it becomes the “cool” way to say it? Even one of my favorite “big radio show” hosts says queshun now.
And this morning on another big radio show a commercial came on for a book app to put on your favorite smartphone that allows you to search for books online and download them right to your phone. And wouldn’t you know, you can actually use it to check out books from the liberry. Someone actually made an advertisement and the narrator says liberry. I used to laugh at kids who said liberry. Now it’s the way to pronounce it?
Well, progress is definitely progress. And my grand daughter’s language in the distant future is bound to be a sight different than mine. I hope they change the way we say “hate.”
