Elitist Bullshit

Some people have this insane idea that more money equals more quality and a better life. They buy BMWs because they are expensive and have no idea, really, what they bought. They drive it five miles an hour over the speed limit on the freeway, turn the stereo up to ten, and go in a straight line until they have to stop in the line of cars lined up at the toll bridge. They spend fifty bucks a week to have Jose wash it and another $200 a month to have Hans, the show car detailer, detail it every month, and they total maybe ten thousand miles a year driving it…in a straight line. The reason it costs eighty-thousand dollars is because it will go around corners and smoke the tires at eighty, but the elitist idiot who bought it will never feel the power and freedom it was designed to give the driver. Never.

And then the faux rock star who buys the most expensive guitar he can find with the best custom made pickups, the most expensive woods, and finely machined tuners he’ll never learn to use. Then, of course, it’s a trip to the “boutique” amp builder and thousands of dollars for an amplifier that is designed to give the perfect tone at any volume setting. After adding the high dollar stereo cords and a multitude of “boutique” foot pedals that fuck up the sound of the guitar, they plug it in, turn the amp up to 12, and hammer fucking power cords until the sun comes up at a gig that pays him a solid fifty dollar bill, plus tips and exposure.

I am all for the freedom to do what you want, however you want, and I encourage those with the money to burn to burn that shit up. The part that bugs me is how stupid people can look at the spendthrift with such disdain when the spendthrift is actually using his tools to make a living and the idiot is telling his talent by how much he or she spent in dollar amounts. Fuck you, I’ll buy that twelve dollar microphone, and if the price comes down, I’ll get more of them.
